Feature: Behind the Scenes of Interact

By: Kayla Nadot

There’s more to this club that meets the eye and there’s a lot going on behind the scenes that members and other students’ are not aware about; Interact, the largest club on Garnet Valley High School’s campus.

Interact has been around for many years and takes a lot of effort to run as explained by two officers, Jordan Gallagher and Paige Kouh, and advisor, Mr. Layman.

“Interact is a great club, but it takes a lot of hard work. A lot of time is spent working with local charities or planning events in our community,” says Jordan, Vice President of Interact.

Interact is a service club at Garnet Valley High School that meets once a month and has over a hundred members working to make our community a better place.  As a member, we are not privy to what goes on behind the scenes and what officer and advisors need to do in order to run this club successfully.

“We’re constantly updating SignUp Genius, our way of getting members scheduled to volunteer for events, and making sure all members are exposed to a variety of philanthropy,” Secretary Paige Kouh shares.

Garnet Valley High School Interact works closely with the local Rotary Club as well.

“Keeping in contact with other Rotarians is a great way for us to stay in the loop of what’s going on in the community as well,” Jordan shares.

After hearing from the people who keep the largest club on our campus running and successful, the viewpoint of average members was explored, in attempt to determine if members’ knew and understood how much work went into running the club.

“I’ve been a member of this club since Freshman year, I love being a part of such a good cause, but I had no clue about the countless hours put in by the officers to make sure all these events we attend are planned and run smoothly. I guess it makes sense that these events don’t plan themselves but now I have a new appreciation for the officers’ and what they do,” says Ryan Knob, a member of Interact.

There are seven officers of Interact, and all of them deserve more recognition than they receive.  It’s important that the hundreds of members apart of this club see how much work goes into the planning and scheduling of events, in hopes of creating a new found appreciation for all that they do.
